The focus for POPS yoga classes in Dunsmuir is “Yoga For Healthy Aging,” and includes a variety of practices to assist students along these lines. Those who attend can expect to improve strength, flexibility and balance, as well as finding support in reaching their own personal goals. Yoga teacher Jan Cowan is trained in traditional Iyengar-style yoga; and in addition has experience in practicing and teaching other styles, including Vinyasa yoga, Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga.
Jan began teaching at Shasta College in Redding in 1992, continuing to teach at Sun Oaks Health Club there as well. After moving to Mt. Shasta in 1999, Jan taught at the Mt. Shasta Wellness Center and at College of the Siskiyous in Weed, as well as offering private classes in Dunsmuir and McCloud. She participated in the Yoga Teacher Training program offered by Amy Cooper, completing the 200-hour course in 2009, deepening her teaching as well as her personal practice as a result. She joyfully offers classes to instruct, inspire and uplift all who choose to participate.
